![]() ![]() Be real careful with your cut and measure here because the stud is only 1.5" wide and you can't drive fasteners closer than 3/8" from the edge of the board or you'll just blow the edge out. Shims go behind your moisture barrier not in front.Ģ.) You need the board edges to always fall on vertical studs. ![]() If you want the board flush to your drywall transition you can use a 1/16" shim to space out the board. One is to save weight and the other is the idea that it will mate with the tapered edge of drywall. Thank you very much for your time.ġ.) Yes Hardibacker, Wonderboard Lite and a few others are. I appreciate any and all advice or comments. I have attached a couple of pictures, one of my current progress and one of the hardiebacker I have. When installing cement board, I have read that it should start about 1/4 inch above the tub edge. Is 6mill vapor barrier enough or do I need 8?Ĥ. Should I be installing horizontal wood between studs to provide more support and attach the cement board directly to?ģ. It lines up roughly 3 inches above the horizontal stud. My cement board edges don't meet a stud at every point. Is cement board meant to be under 1/2 inch so when the tile is applied, it will meet with the edge of existing 1/2inch drywall? Or do I need to fur out my studs?Ģ. I picked out 1/2 inch hardiebacker cement board, and got it home, but it measures only. I have my cement board, my walls open and my 6mill vapor barrier.ġ. I had him bid the job and decided I would be hanging the cement board myself and he would pick up from there. Because I am pretty inexperienced, I had my contractor come out and take a look. I returned the insert and have decided to do tile. So I ripped all the drywall out and the insert still didn't fit appropriately, due to the small lip on the tub and special nubs the insert had along the bottoms to fit into the tub recommended with the set. I then did a bit more research and read that these inserts are meant to go direct to stud, as the instruction say, despite what I was told in store. I got home and the insert wouldn't fit in my shower because the dry wall hung about 1/4 of an inch over the edge of the tub. I removed this surround and had planned to use a 3 piece surround insert, which I got from home depot and was assured I could just attach this directly to the existing drywall no problem. Origin shower surround was just a piece of hardyboard glued to the drywall directly. I decided to redo my shower and have run into some road blocks along the way.
