All the files are standard Lua text files, and can be readily edited with any good text editor like notepad +.I just spent all day modding the game to suit my needs after the last patch.tweaked the costs and strengths of various ship systems, changed research costs, even changed the autorepair function.all the files are in this folder (and subfolders)C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonStars in ShadowLua staterecommend making backups first by copy the files you want to edit into a working directory. Then, when you are done editing them, there's even a mods folder in your SiS main directory that is already designed to accept mods! Just drop your edited files in there, and if you didn't make any mistakes, the game will read your edits in the mod folder instead of the regular files. Ezpz.heck you can even change the files WHILE you are playing the game (no need to exit, or even reload!), and they show up as soon as you enter any menu that displays them (might have to close and re-open any particular menu.worried about patches overwriting your changes? Your edits are in the mods folder.

When a patch comes through, check for any files that have changed, load those files and the ones in your mod folder at the same time, and use the plugin 'compare' in notepad plus. It will automatically highlight every line that has changed between your mod and a new patched file, so you can easily just cut and paste what you want into the active file.it's old school modding. Easy to understand, but just a PITA to manage since you don't have a nice thing like the nexus mod manager to keep track of changes for you.it certainly wouldn't be hard to set up a workshop for this game, but I doubt that is a priority, so just do the mods yourself. It literally will take you less than an hour to figure out which files control which things (there's really only a handful of files you likely will want to mod), and get a handle on how the variables work. Btw, if someone wants basic changes to systems, research costs, weapons, etc. Happy to do that so you have an example to work from.
Just give me a place to upload your file to. It's a small indie title. Not sure i'd call being able to edit text files 'wizardry', but I guess there's a sliding scale.eventually the devs will probably open a workshop page here. Just low on the priority list.I bet there is a page for it on nexus mods though. Let me check.hmm. Smaller base than I even thought evidently.shrug.like i said, if you just look at the files in a text editor, you can quickly see how stuff works.if you have an idea that you want to try, post it here and I wll tell you how easy or hard that would be to do, given even basic knowledge of the main files. Looks promising.
Thxyeah, that's the right file, but the devs got lazy and lumped bunches of improvements under the same formulas. I'll have to figure out how to break them up and give each its own custom formula.for now, I just wanted to make the first factory you build to be a bit cheaper, while keeping the costs high for the second, third, etc.factories are grouped with labs under the same formula, but I think it still works. I made first factory/lab 75 base cost cheaper, so first costs 150 instead of 225. Should speed up early development a bit for both you and the AI.very close to finishing all of the things I wanted to do cost-balance wise now. One more huge map run-through should finish testing.
